So, I have more poems, again...
Here are a few more poems that I have found to enjoy-
Did I Miss Anything?
Love Poem With A Toast
When I found the library of congress website that had the list of 180 poems on it, I was very interested. For this poem in the list, the title is what caught my attention. I like this poem because it is realistic and it has a powerful meaning to it. The truths in it are things that we do not think about on a daily basis, and it makes you think about the things that are important to us, even though they are not always a part of our daily lives.. for example, "wanting not to lose the rain forest". But then there are parts that mention things we do think about sometimes, like "wanting not to run out of gas" or "wanting the water to boil". This poem does not seem like a love poem to me at first, like the title states it, but in the end I do think that it is a type of love poem. This author was very creative in the style of writing, which is something else that I enjoy about the poem.

Alicia,
As I read these poems I am wondering why you like them, what they reveal about you... Some have a school theme -- would be perfect if you were planning to be a teacher to use some of these in class. The poem about the affair is rather extreme. As I read it I kept wondering what the speaker was going to do, and what was going to happen next. I was surprised all the way through.
I really liked this poem, it sounds like something that i would do if i found that my significant other had been cheating. It is like the person needed to get rid of everything that meant anything to the both of them. It would be pretty funny to be a neighbor watching some crazy man throwing all of his wifes favorite things out in the middle of the yard....i can picture it now
I really enjoyed "love with a toast." It appealed to me because it isn't the typical love poem. It's interesting to embrace the point of view of people in a relationship that is past the early infatuation and could be getting slightly monotonous. It was interesting to read about the feelings most people don't want to admit that they have about their relationship. I don't doubt the love of the speaker for his/her partner, even though the relationship might be getting slightly boring, or perhaps just very comfortable.
Alicia,
The "did i miss anything" poem was cool. i kind of interpreted it in two different ways...one being that the teacher was out for a while and the sub just wasnt cutting it or the other, that maybe a person had drifted away from their higher being and once they returned they were able to get back on track...but the most evident interpretation to me was the first...im probably way off with the second (just a thought)
I presume that "Did I Miss Anything?" was written by a high school teacher!
That certainly is the first sentence out of many students' mouths when they are back after being sick. It can drive a teacher crazy -- or to poetry, I guess. I would say, however, in defense of high school students, what I think they mean is, "Sorry I missed your class, what did I miss?"
